| Wine of The Week February 14, 2004 Hangtime Pinot Noir The Hangtime name comes from the fact that the winery leaves the grapes on the vine for extended ripening. Hangtime is a brand from Byron Winery. Byron's self-branded Pinot was selected by the Wine Spectator as a Top 100 wine last year. The vineyard's location in the cool Santa Maria Valley, allows for flavors to develop without the wine becoming overly ripe, alcoholic or out of balance. For the 2002 vintage, the grapes hung for a minimum of 125 days. It's medium-bodied, but full-flavored with bright cherry and floral tastes that hit immediately and linger after the wine is gone. You're most likely to find this on restaurant wine lists, but a few retailers may carry it. At less than $15, it's a very affordable and enjoyable Pinot Noir. Back to Wines of the Week. |
