Mulderbosch 2003 Sauvignon Blanc Stellenbosch

While South Africa actually has a winemaking history
of more than 300 years, the industry has essentially
been remade over the last ten years.  The abolition of
Apartheid has transformed a heavily government-
controlled wine industry into a market driven one that
is quickly becoming a major player in wine producing.

The Mulderbosch 2003 Sauvignon Blanc is the finest
South African wine I’ve tasted and it’s an outstanding
value at $18 as well.  Straw-colored, it combines
complex flavors of grass, citrus and gooseberry.  It’s
powerful and concentrated, a perfect match for grilled
vegetables, seafood or any dish with goat cheese.
Enjoy it now or through at least 2007.

Mulderbosch is situated in the prime Koelenhof area
of Stellenbosch.  While not a particularly large
producer, this winery has established its reputations
as one South Africa’s top makers of white wines.
